On January 9, in solidarity with the city of New York and our extraordinary community of festival venues, we offered 1500 free tickets for shows in the 2026 UTR festival to the general public. 24 hours later, they were all claimed.
New Yorkers just proved to us how much affordable theater means for people living in the cultural capital of the world. One of the key missions of Under the Radar is to make groundbreaking theater accessible for everyone. With the help of the NYC mayor’s office, we have gotten much closer to achieving that goal… but we’re not done yet!
Here’s what you can do to help Under the Radar keep presenting risky, meaningful, extraordinary performances:
+ Contact your local City Council Representative, Community Board Representative and Borough President. Let them know that affordable art matters to you! Find them here.
+ Donate to Under the Radar! We are a nonprofit organization that has been bringing experimental and international theater to New York City for 21 years. Your support helps us continue the vital effort of connecting NYC with the world. Support us here.

Over the past 21 years, the Under the Radar theater festival has produced hundreds of new works for the New York stage. In 2026, between January 7 and 25, UTR will present more than 225 performances of 30 different shows at 25 partner theaters across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx. Whether it’s your first play of the year or your first play of this decade, we welcome you to our audience.
